NATURAL PARK OF THE HOCES OF THE RIAZA RIVER

It is located in the northeast of the province of Segovia, a little more than 45 minutes from Ayllón. It is an area around the gorges of the Riaza River, of great geomorphological and botanical value and, above all, with a great variety and quantity of rupicula and birds of prey. Its formation is due to the encasement of the Riaza river by dissolution and erosion of limestone rock, but there is also another area of alluvial plain, where sediments carried by the river have been deposited.

HEYEDO DE TEJERA NEGRA

This beech forest is located in Cantalojas, in the northwestern corner of the province of Guadalajara, 46 km away. It is part of the Ayllón massif, at the eastern end of the Central System. It is one of the southernmost beech forests in Europe. The main focus of interest of the park is in the beech forest mass, with an extension close to 400 hectares.

NATURAL PARK OF THE HOCES OF THE DURATÓN RIVER

The natural park of the Duratón River Gorges, 57 km. from Ayllón, is a protected area that includes the environment of the gorges that this river has in its middle section. These are the canyon that the Duratón, a tributary of the Duero River, has excavated in an area of limestone rock between the towns of Sepúlveda and Burgomillodo, northeast of the province of Segovia. The colony of griffon vultures established in the protected area is considered the largest in Europe, both in terms of numbers and reproductive level, and has become one of the main attractions of the park.

CANYON OF THE RIVER LOBOS

A little more than 50 km away is the natural park of the Cañón del Río Lobos, a protected natural area in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. Approximately a quarter of its surface is located in the province of Burgos and three quarters in the province of Soria. The plant population that inhabits this natural space is made up of different species, among which the emblematic juniper junipers stand out. Along with this tree can be seen abundant populations of Pino pudio, gall oak and holm oak. In the areas covered with scrub, junipers, bearberry and gorse can be seen, complemented by thyme, lavender and sage. The banks are populated by poplars, alders, poplars and willows and in the waters there are water lilies, bulrushes and spangles.

HEYEDO DE MONTEJO

The Montejo beech forest is a beech forest of 250 hectares located in the foothills of the Sierra de Ayllón and belonging to the municipality of Montejo de la Sierra (Community of Madrid, Spain), north of the province of Madrid and bordering the province of Guadalajara and the Jarama River. Among its huge beech trees of more than 20 meters high, you can also find oaks, wild cherry trees, hazelnut trees, birches, oaks, holly, heather and rowan trees. To access it is necessary to purchase a pass, which can be obtained free of charge at the office that the Community of Madrid has in Montejo de la Sierra.

WATERFALL OF CHORRO DE NAVAFRÍA

El Chorro de Navafría, just over 80 km. from Ayllón, also known as El Chorro, is a waterfall located in the northern part of the northwestern slope of the Sierra de Guadarrama. It is located in the municipality of Navafría, in the province of Segovia. Under the waterfall there is a small pool where the waters of the stream rest to continue descending until reaching the Cega River. A kilometer from the waterfall is the recreational park called 'El Chorro', equipped with tables, a restaurant and parking. From this place there is a path that leads to this waterfall, surrounded by a lush forest of Scots pine.
